This paper discusses the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) test plans for evaluation of the performance of package water treatment equipment intended for use by small water systems, which have been developed by the National Sanitation Foundation for the Environmental Protection Agency. This workbook material covers four ETV test plans for evaluation of filtration technologies for removal of microbiological and particulate contaminants that include: coagulation/filtration; precoat filtration; bag filtration and cartridge filtration; and, backwashable depth filtration. These test plans are intended to result in evaluation of different brands of equipment with the same degree of rigor with the goal of requiring tests under conditions that will provide credible operating and water quality data.
