Journal AWWA - Removing and Disposing of Radium from Well Water AWWA
A small, full-scale ion exchange system, the Redhill Forest (Colo.) treatment facility, removes iron, hardness, and radium from well water. The plant also includes an aeration process for removing dissolved radon and carbon dioxide gases. A unique feature of the plant is a process that removes radium in the waste brine from the ion exchange system and complexes it permanently on a radium-selective complexer (RSC). The RSC resin is replaced when needed and is sent for final disposal to a site that accepts low-level radioactive wastes. Includes 21 references, tables, figure.
