Scope1.1This Standard applies to motor-operated liquid pump units for use in nonhazardous, indoor, outdoor (exposed), and submerged locations and designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.1.2This Standard applies toa) pumps for either permanent or cord-connection to the source of supplyb) cord- and plug-connected pumpsc) component-type pump units intended to be built into equipment covered by another Standard of theCanadian Electrical Code, Part II1.3This Standard does not apply to pumps for hazardous locations or pumps required to handle flammable liquids such as gasoline pumps.1.4Clauses 4 to 7 are general in nature and apply to all motor-operated liquid pump units. They are supplemented and amended by additional clauses applying to specific types of pumps, as follows:a) Clause 8 - submersible pumpsb) Clause 9 - cord- and plug-connected poolside pumpsc) Clause 10 - insulated wet end pumpsd) Clause 11 - extra-low-voltage recreational vehicle pumpse) Clause 12 - pool and spa cover drain pumpsf) Clause 13 - aquarium pumps1.5In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
