A LAUNDRY ROOM THAT IS FOUND IN A HOSPITAL OR HOTEL ARE GENERALLY HOT AND REQUIRE WORKERS TO PERFORM BORING TASKS AS PART OF THEIR DAILY ROUTINE. THE DESIRE TO USE ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION TO PERFORM DAILY ROUTINES IN THE LAUNDRY IS DESIRABLE FROM A HUMAN FACTORS STANDPOINT, AS WELL AS INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY AND REDUCING COSTS. IN THIS PAPER, AN UNDERSTANDING OF LAUNDRY ROOM OPERATIONS IS NECESSARY TO DETERMINE WHAT, IF NOT ALL, PORTIONS OF THE LAUNDRY SHOULD BE AUTOMATED. TECHNOLOGICAL PROBLEMS WILL BE ADDRESSED, ALONG WITH POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS. COST REDUCTION OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND DISCUSSED. THIS PAPER IS INTENDED TO PRESENT A POSSIBLE ROBOTIC APPLICATION FOR A PARTICULAR SERVICE INDUSTRY. THIS PAPER REPRESENTS ONLY A CONCEPTUAL IDEA OF THE ROBOTIC SYSTEM AND DOES NOT REFLECT, AT THIS TIME, AN ACTUAL ROBOTIC/AUTOMATED LAUNDRY SYSTEM.
