THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF AN INVESTIGATION OF THE ULTRASONIC POLISHING PARAMETERS RELATED TO SURFACE INTEGRITY IMPROVEMENT FOR EDM WORKPIECES. ULTRASONIC POLISHING, A NEW VARIANT OF ULTRASONIC MACHINING (USM), HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY UTILIZED IN LIMITED APPLICATIONS AND SHOWS GREAT PROMISE AS A FLEXIBLE, CONTROLLABLE FINISHING PROCESS. RESEARCH HAS FOUND EDM LEAVES SURFACE RESIDUAL STRESSES THAT CAN REDUCE HIGH CYCLE FATIGUE STRENGTH IF THE SURFACE IS NOT POST TREATED. THUS, THERE ARE PARTICULAR FINISHING NEEDS FOR EDM COMPONENTS MADE FROM TOOL STEEL.
