1.1 This practice covers the high-shear mixing of hydraulic cement pastes. 1.2 The values stated in SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. ====== Significance And Use ====== 5.1 This practice is useful in laboratory research on rheology of hydraulic cement systems as it has been shown to provide a paste with rheological properties similar to those obtained in a concrete from which the aggregate had been removed. 4 Mixing of paste using C305 is not satisfactory as the paste is not thoroughly mixed, due to the absence of sand. In this practice the shear imparted to the cement paste is significantly higher than in C305 and therefore it is known as high-shear mixing.
