The objective of this study was to optimize the use of ozonation with biotreatment for DBP control. Preozonation was characterized by the: production of ozonation DBPs and BDOC; oxidation of chlorination DBP precursors; and conversion of bromide to bromate. The effectiveness of biotreatment was measured for the control of DBPs and DBP precursors. Special attention was also given to the impact of bromide concentration on the speciation of the DBPs. The oxidation of chlorination DBP precursors was measured by the change in formation potential for total organic halogen (TOX), total THMs (TTHMs) and total haloacetic acid (THAAs).
