该标准包括航海船舶上使用的术语、缩写和图形符号。缩写的适用是有用的，但这些缩写不能在修饰中使用。在修饰中使用的符号在必要时被提及。航海是指船舶或运输工具计划、记录、控制从一个地点到另一个地点的移动，以及寻找位置的过程。

이 표준은 항해하는 선박에서 사용되는 용어, 약어 및 그래픽 기호를 포함한다. 약어의 적용은 유용하긴 하지만, 이들 약어는 수식에서 사용되어서는 안 된다. 수식에서의 사용을 위한 기호는 필요한 경우 언급되어 있다.항해란 선박 또는 운송 수단이 한 장소로부터 다른 장소로 이동하는 것을 계획하고, 기록하고, 제어하는 것뿐만 아니라 위치를 찾는 과정을 말한다.
