This test method provides a means for evaluating contact compatibility between asphaltic materials. It is generally used to determine compatibility between the saturant and coating used in the manufacture of prepared roofings.

Coating and saturant will be referred to, but comparable asphaltic materials may be tested where this test procedure seems applicable.

The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.

This test method assesses the degree to which asphalts interact with one another. It can indicate possible future problems, especially blistering, in a roofing product if incompatible asphalts are in contact in the product.
