The City of Higginsville, a rural community in north central Missouri, obtainsits drinking water from an impoundment that collects agricultural runoff periodically containing elevated levels of s-triazines. The Higginsville Water Treatment Plant became the first water plant in Missouri to use granular activated carbon (GAC) filter-adsorbers for herbicide control. Two of the four multi-media gravity filters at Higginsville were retrofitted with 24 inches of GAC by replacement of theanthracite caps. This paper presents an evaluation of the performance of GAC filter-adsorbers at the Higginsville Water Treatment Plant. Includes 9 references, table, figures.
