This paper investigates techniques for increasing the analysis speed of dense 3D measurement data sets. The analysis is defined as quantifying conformance to form specifications and does not address surface characteristics such as roughness and waviness. Specifically, metrics for determining the importance of each point to the analysis procedures are used to eliminate some percentage of the points from the iterations early in the analysis. The results indicate that the three reduction methods provide a savings in the amount of computations required without a reduction in precision. These methods can be incorporated to provide for increased analysis speed.
