IN 1988, ONE COMPANY INITIATED A PROGRAM TO CONSOLIDATE ALL ITS CAD, CAM, CAE, AND CIM APPLICATIONS (C4) INTO A STANDARDIZED HETEROGENEOUS ENVIRONMENT BASED ON UNIX TECHNOLOGY. USERS DEMANDED SOLUTIONS TO SOLVE THE SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT INEFFICIENCIES INHERITED WITH UNIX. VENDORS RESPONDED BUT NO TOTAL SOLUTION WAS AVAILABLE. AS OFFICE AUTOMATION (OA) WAS ROLLED INTO THE INFRASTRUCTURE, CENTRALIZING MANAGEMENT OF THE ENTERPRISE BECAME MORE COMPLEX AND TOOLS BECAME LESS EFFICIENT. THE C4/OA PROGRAM WAS CHARTERED TO DEMONSTRATE INTEGRATION BETWEEN VARIOUS SYSTEMS AND NETWORK MANAGEMENT PRODUCTS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AND PROVIDE A RELIABLE NETWORK.
