COMPUTER SIMULATION HAS PROVEN TO BE AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN EVALUATING DESIGN ALTERNATIVES OF HIGH- SPEED BATTERY MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS. SEVERAL SIMULATION DESIGN CONVENTIONS HAVE PROVEN VALUABLE IN EVALUATING CONVEYOR DESIGNS. THE FOLLOWING AREAS ARE DISCUSSED: THE MAJOR ELEMENTS OF A MODEL DESIGN OF CONVEYOR SIMULATIONS, PITFALLS COMMONLY ENCOUNTERED IN SIMULATION STUDIES, AND THE CHALLENGES OF DATA COLLECTION FOR SIMULATION ANALYSIS. REFERENCES ARE TAKEN FROM A PROJECT COMPLETED EARLIER IN 1992 WHERE CONVEYOR EFFICIENCY WAS ESTIMATED USING SIMULATION. IMPROVING CONVEYOR EFFICIENCIES WAS SHOWN TO PROVIDE BETTER OPPORTUNITY FOR INCREASING LINE THROUGHPUT THAN IMPROVING MACHINE RELIABILITIES.
