The acceptance of direct digital temperature control technology by the air conditioning industry has exceeded the projections of most manufacturers in the industry. Unfortunately, the systems have not been applied to their greatest advantage. Many of the control sequences are still applied as if pneumatic controls were being used. Open-loop and indirect control are still employed for many of the standard control functions that can now have closed-loop control. Describes temperature control sequences that can be implemented with direct digital control, and that were not practical with discrete component pneumatic and electronic control systems. The purpose of these sequences is to operate the air conditioning system with the greatest comfort possible, within basic design and at the lowest energy cost while taking advantage of diversity, closing open control loops and indirect control loops, eliminating most of the energy waste of overdesign, and correcting for some underdesign of systems by taking advantage of diversity.KEYWORDS: computer controls, temperature, air conditioning, energy conservation, operations, efficiency, variable volume air conditioning, offices, multistorey buildings.Units: I-P
