The Louisville Water Company has developed a facility management system that interacts with the utility's existing work order system and automated mapping system. The system also supplies data for evaluation of water main replacement and rehabilitation. Facility history and maintenance files were established for pipelines, valves, hydrants, and services. The files allow engineers and the district manager to accurately monitor distribution system activity. In addition, the system allows for orderly recordkeeping, standardized reports, statistical analysis, and troubleshooting. The ability for file interaction between the work order system and the automated mapping system allows the facility management system to become an integrated, integral part of daily management of the water distribution system.
