The goal of this study was to effectively remove turbidity from drinking water so that it can be used as a multiple barrier in treatment plants using "direct" filtration. The filtration performance of the foam filter with respect to removing turbidity is addressed using three different foams at varying degrees of compression. The foam filters were used to filter five micron-sized, silica particles. The headloss development also was studied. Finally, the turbidity removal performance of the polyurethane foam filters was compared with that of sand and anthracite. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
