THE ENERGY BARRIER METHOD, DEVELOPED BY G. BOOTHROYD TO COMPUTE THE PROBABILITIES OF NATURAL RESTING ASPECTS OF PARTS, IS COMPUTATIONALLY DEMANDING FOR ALL BUT THE SIMPLEST CROSS-SECTIONAL SHAPES, AND REQUIRES A CLEAR VISUALIZATION OF THE FORM OF THE ENERGY BARRIER. THE METHOD BECOMES PROTRACTED AND UNWIELDLY ESPECIALLY FOR IRREGULAR SHAPES. A GRAPHICAL CAD ALTERNATIVE IS PROPOSED IN THIS PAPER.
