This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Long Beach Water Department and its desalination program, focusing on the following topics: pretreatment;
prototype; and,
post-treatment. Presentation conclusions indicate that:
pretreatment pilot column testing underway
to help guide/predict demonstration scale
subsurface intake;
demonstration subsurface intake currently
in 7 day performance testing, and preliminary
results suggest environmental factors are
impacting performance;
Prototype Phase I testing completed; all tests met salinity water quality goal;
2 Pass NF was able to achieve better
permeate water quality at slightly lower
energy consumption; Prototype UV system ready to start testing;
ClO2 bench testing showed rapid
deterioration of membranes, need to
perform additional bench testing on "pure"
chlorine dioxide;
desk top evaluation complete;
bench testing near completion, and VT
continuing to perform lead/tin solder bench
experiments; and,
post-treatment design at 90% and anticipate
construction to begin mid-summer and
testing to begin in late Fall 2008. Includes tables, figures.
