Predictive models based on water quality (ultraviolet absorbance in particular) can be
used reliably to estimate chlorine dioxide (ClO2) demand. Approximately 50-70 percent of the
ClO2 reacted at any point in time appeared as the chlorite ion (ClO2
-). These studies provided a
framework for water utilities to balance ClO2 dosages and source water quality in order to meet
disinfection requirements and the ClO2
- maximum contaminant level on a daily basis. Includes 13 references, tables, figures.
