This powerpoint presentation provides information on assessing three different aspects of distribution system integrity. The first, physical integrity, covers topics that include: detecting leaks using acoustic monitors; examples of acoustic signatures; coliphage as indicators of distribution system integrity; and, evidence of backflow in West Virginia. The second aspect of hydraulic integrity covers topics that include: transient pressures from unsteady flow; and, intrusion could be responsible for some coliform positive samples. The third aspect of water quality integrity covers topics that include: Public Health Benefits with Various
Sensor Designs; Factors Related to Regrowth; distribution of assimilable organic carbon (AOC) in 95 North
American Water Utilities; water treatment affects AOC levels; genetically modified AOC test organisms; and, automated AOC test. Mycobacteria in water samples is presented, along with control of mycobacteria, the number of waterborne disease and outbreaks
associated with drinking water (n=30),
by etiologic agent United States, 2003-2004, and Strategy For Managing Distribution
System Integrity.
