In 1975 radium-226 was discovered in several drinking water supplies in Sarasota County, Florida. The results of a study of eight reverse osmosis treatment systems used for the removal of Ra-226 show that all systems effectively lowered concentrations in the raw water below the EPA maximum contaminant level of 5 pCi/L, although the age, type, and performance of the systems varied.
