A PARTICULAR ADVANTAGE, ESPECIALLY IN ENVIRONMENTAL TERMS, IS THE ABILITY TO DISPENSE WITH COOLING LUBRICANTS. IN ADDITION TO MECHANICAL LOADING OF THE BELT BY THE MACHINING FORCES, HOWEVER, THIS RESULTS IN A SIGNIFICANT THERMAL WEAR EFFECT DUE TO GRINDING HEAT. HIGH PERFORMANCE AND LONG TOOL LIVES CAN BE ACHIEVED ONLY IF BOTH PROCESS HEAT AND GRINDING FORCES ARE MINIMIZED BY SELECTING SUITABLE SETTINGS.
