The award-winning IADC HSE Case Guidelines for Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) have had a huge impact on safety-management for the global drilling industry. The Guidelines were written to provide the worldwide offshore drilling industry a tool to bring together global health, safety and environmental principles applicable to drilling units. This safety-management system represents a voluntary, core set of principles that can be applied to any drilling unit regardless of geographic location. Industry and regulators alike have embraced the Guidelines as a regulatory requirement, best practice or as a requirement of national oil companies.Content includes an introduction to the HSE Case, HSE management for drilling contractors, description of MODUs, risk management, emergency response and performance monitoring. In December 2007, the International Regulators Forum bestowed the Carolita Kallaur award on IADC for the Guidelines' contribution to improving safety in drilling operations.
