A NEW MACHINE TOOL CONTROL METHOD INCORPORATING A COMPLEX MODEL OF ABRASIVE-JET PROCESSES AND A MACHINE USING THE CONTROL IS DESCRIBED. THE CONTROL CALCULATES FEED RATES AND, WITH A 10HP PUMP, ACHIEVES PRECISION ACCURACIES (+/-.005) IN HARD MATERIALS UP TO 1.5 THICK. THE TOOL PATH IS STORED IN THE FORM OF STEP AND DIRECTION COMMANDS WITH ASSOCIATED TIME DELAYS FOR EACH STEP. THE TIMED COMMANDS ARE SENT TO SERVO POSITION CONTROLLERS TO ACHIEVE THE MOTION.
