If we are to sustain the water supplies and water infrastructure that are so important to the
health of our people and the environment, we must be smarter about water use. Individuals,
communities, industry, and government can all help to protect the quality and quantity of the
nation's water supply. Often, the information needed to use water more efficiently is not
available. The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) sees a potential role it can play in the marketplace by identifying water-efficient
products and informing purchasers of the advantages of those products. This paper discusses how the USEPA will need to partner
with manufacturers, retailers, suppliers, water and wastewater utilities, states, environmental
groups, consumer organizations and others to successfully transform the market for water-efficient
products.
