1.Scope1.1The purpose of this Standard is to provide guidance to assist clinicians and wheelchair users in interpreting the increased information that will appear in manufacturers' literature as a result of testing in compliance with this Standard.Stability requirements vary considerably with the application of use. Users are recommended to review their particular application, including gradients specified under the prevailing building codes, in conjunction with this Standard.1.2The tests determine the stability characteristics of wheelchairs in the forward, backward, and transverse (sideways) directions.1.3This Standard specifies methods for determining the static stability of wheelchairs.1.4In this Standard, ""shall"" indicates a mandatory requirement; ""should"" indicates a recommendation, ie, that which is advised but not mandatory.Notes accompanying clauses do not include mandatory or alternative requirements.
