These principles do not cover performance or functional characteristics of equipment.It is essential that designers understand the underlying principles of safety requirements in order that they can engineer safe equipment.These principles are not an alternative to the detailed requirements of this document, but are intended to provide designers with an appreciation of the basis of these requirements.
