The 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) mandated the establishment
of a series of new drinking water regulations. Since the enactment of the amendments,
the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has been busy developing, proposing,
and finalizing regulatory actions. Regulatory activity peaked in 2000 and is expected
to remain steady in 2001. The scope, status, and schedules for key regulations under
development by USEPA are presented in an SDWA calendar in this paper. Important
regulatory actions in 2000 and the outlook for 2001 and beyond are covered here. Includes 43 references, tables.
