The Guide contains information about the types, application, and material properties of shop-applied pre-construction primer coatings used in the shipbuilding industry to temporarily protect steel during the shipbuilding process. Sometimes these primers must be removed prior to applying the primary coating system, but in many instances complete removal is not necessary if a secondary surface preparation of the pre-construction primer (which may involve power tool cleaning, brush-off blasting, pressurized water cleaning, or a combination of these methods) is performed prior to application of the final coating system.
