GRINDING FLUIDS HAVE TRADITIONALLY BEEN USED AS AN EXTERNAL MEANS TO PROVIDE COOLING AND LUBRICATION AT THE- WHEEL-WORKPIECE INTERFACE. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GRINDING FLUID PERFORMANCE CAN BE INCREASED IF IT IS SUPPLIED AT A SPEED HIGHER THAN THE PERIPHERAL VELOCITY OF THE WHEEL SO IT CAN OVERCOME THE CENTRIFUGAL FORCE OF THE WHEEL AND PENETRATE THE SURROUNDING AIR ENVELOPE. THE VOLUME FLOW RATE ALSO SHOULD BE HIGH ENOUGH TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE CONVECTIVE COOLING/LUBRICATION AT THE GRINDING ZONE.
