THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THIS INVESTIGATION WAS TO COMPARE A VARIETY OF WATER SOLUBLE FLUIDS TO A PETROLEUM OIL CURRENTLY USED FOR PRODUCTION FORM PROFILE INTERNAL GRINDING. THE PART QUALITY, SKIP DRESS AND CYCLE TIME WERE THE DETERMINING SUCCESS CRITERIA. THE SECOND OBJECTIVE DOCUMENTS THE EFFECTS OF A WATER SOLUBLE FLUID ON MACHINE ELEMENTS SUCH AS COMPONENT RUST, SEAL CHEMISTRY CHANGES AND INCREASED VIBRATION. A THIRD OBJECTIVE WAS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE DIFFERENT FLUIDS AFFECT THE SPECIFIC POWER, THRESHOLD POWER, SURFACE FINISH AND PEAK-TO-VALLEY GEOMETRY OF THE PART.
