The application of oxidation and adsorption techniques, including granular activated carbon, in the treatment of drinking water were analyzed for their application to GAC use in the United States. Long-term GAC performance for TOC removal was the measurement parameter. Results of European studies fell primarily in the mid-range of the spectrum of results in the United States. It might be advantageous for North American specialists to draw on the substantially larger body of experience with GAC in Europe. Includes 21 references, tables, figures.
