This article discusses the 2002 United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Develop (WSSD) and the 2002 Stockholm Water Symposium. Building on the "Agenda 21" international development objectives agreed on 10 years ago at the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the WSSD saw 9,000 delegates from almost 200 nations find common ground on a global declaration and implementation plan for securing resources essential for economic and community development among the poorest people on the planet in a manner that ensures long-term ecosystem viability.
