This article discusses the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF),created by amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in 1996. Funding assistance for projects include: the costs of infrastructure needed to achieve or maintain compliance with SDWA requirements and to protect public health; capitalization grants to the states, which in turn can provide low-cost loans and other types of assistance to eligible systems; and, capitalization grants for administrative costs and program funding for capacity development and source water protection.
