This presentation describes the development of a Strategic Information Management Plan for the City of Fort Worth Water Department. Included are a description of the information system planning process, its benefits, and Fort Worth's results. The recommended Strategic Information Management Plan includes recommendations relating to such diverse applications as the Customer Information System (CIS), Geographic Information System (GIS), maintenance management, and long-range water supply planning. The plan also encompasses the use of advanced technologies such as in-vehicle terminals, bar coding, hand held entry devices, and linkages among personal computers (PCs), work stations, mini computers, and the City's mainframe computer. Figures include two charts, one showing functions within each functional area of the Fort Worth Water Department, and another showing a schedule for implementation of various projects identified in the strategic plan (customer information, management planning information, geographic information, and so forth).
