The author describes the need for and proposes a plan to organize an AWWA-sponsored program that would provide technical assistance and training to help less developed countries improve their drinking water supply and sanitation services. This program proposal was prepared for the AWWA International Affairs Committee at the request of Steven Bonk, immediate past-president of AWWA, and approved in principle by the AWWA Board of Directors at the 1989 annual conference in Los Angeles. A special presidential committee is currently assessing how such a program could be financed and organized, with a final report due to the Executive Committee in December. Includes tables, photos.
