This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of Aqua America and its operating locations, focusing on the Aqua-Pa Pickering Creek Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and removal of thickened/dried sludges. The objective of this study was to use pilot equipment to simulate actual dewatering operation to reduce long-term sludge management costs. The development of testing protocols
and evaluation parameters of a typical dewatering operation is presented, along with pilot testing of three belt filter presses (BFPs), options considered to overcome
high solids in the lagoon, and analytical results of
side-by-side performance testing. Conclusions indicate that: planning and development of testing protocols
are critical to a successful pilot testing;
preparation requires thorough consideration
and design;
implementation requires careful monitoring;
analysis requires the evaluation of all variables; and,
conducting pilot testing in hot and humid
summer days, or in harsh cold winter is not
recommended. Includes tables.
