该标准规定了往复内燃机测量声功率级的方法——工程方法。该标准适用于ISO 3046-1适用领域的所有往复内燃机和没有适当国际标准的其他内燃机。除非在备注标准中另有说明，否则往复内燃机称为发动机

이 표준은 왕복 내연기관에 대하여 사운드 파워 레벨을 측정하는 방법인 엔지니어링 방법을 규정한다. 이 표준은 ISO 3046-1의 적용 분야에 해당하는 모든 왕복 내연기관과 적절한 국제 표준이 없는 기타 내연기관에 적용된다. 비고 이 표준에서 달리 설명하지 않는 한 왕복 내연기관을 엔진이라고 한다
