This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of American Water and the drivers/benefits of using a best practice approach to optimizing the
balance between a utility's operating efficiencies, service levels to
customers, and operational risks. The elements of a best practice program are presented and include the following:
tools;
teams;
development;
prioritization; and,
implementation.
Examples from American Water's program are provided, and presentation conclusions indicate the following:
utilities can improve operations (operating efficiencies, service
levels to customers, and reduce risks) by applying a Best
Practice approach of
establishing a Governance Program of Policies, Strategies, and Practices;
identify stakeholders and establish roles and responsibilities;
identify and develop Best Practices, internal/external research;
prioritize along the way;
plan for change tactically, emotionally, resources;
implement Best Practice; and,
