THIS PAPER ADDRESSES HOW DIFFERENT APPAREL/TEXTILE COMPANIES TACKLED THE TQM INITIATIVE USING THE CONCEPT OF MANAGING BY KNOWING. THIS PROCESS FOCUSES ON THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE OF TQM FOR ERROR-PREVENTION, USING (1) PROCESS FLOW MAPPING FOR IDENTIFYING CRITICAL PROCESS POINTS; (2) DEVELOPING SPC ATTRIBUTE ERROR-SOURCING DATABANKS; (3) ALLOWING EMPLOYEES TO HUNT FOR ROOT-CAUSES AND FASHION SOLUTIONS; (4) USE CUSTOM-DESIGNED DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE TO BECOME EXPERT DIAGNOSTICIANS, AND (5) MEASURE DISPLAY IMPROVEMENTS AND DEVELOP HABITS OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IN EVERY WORKPLACE.
