A NEW APPROACH TO SEPARATING PROCESS MANAGEMENT IS PROPOSED. THE WORKFLOW PROCESS CAN TAKE SEVERAL FORMS. MOST COMPANIES ARE NOW CHARTING THEIR WORKFLOW PROCESS MODEL(S) IN THE FORM OF A FLOW CHART AND HANGING IT ON THE WALL. QUITE OFTEN, PROCESS MANAGEMENT STOPS WITH THE CHART ON THE WALL AND BUSINESS PROCEEDS AS USUAL WITH NO EFFECTIVE CONTROL OF THE PROCESS. WITH PROCESS MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY, THE WORKFLOW PROCESS MODEL CAN BE CAPTURED IN A COMPUTER PROGRAM, CALLED AN ASSISTANT, AND USED TO GUIDE DAY-TO- DAY BUSINESS ACTIVITIES. SUCH AN ASSISTANT WORKS WITH EXISTING SOFTWARE SYSTEMS TO REDUCE CYCLE TIME DRAMATICALLY. THIS REDUCTION IS CHIEFLY ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH TIMELY COORDINATION BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS INVOLVED IN COLLABORATING TO COMPLETE A PROCESS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP A PRODUCT.
