THE SUCCESSFUL COMMERCIALIZATION OF PRECISION CERAMIC COMPONENTS IS LARGELY DEPENDENT ON IMPROVEMENTS MADE IN FINISHING THEM. THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE PROGRESS MADE, AS WELL AS KNOWLEDGE GAINED, IN A CERAMICS FINISHING MARKET DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. SEVERAL CASE STUDIES REVIEW THE STATE-OF-THE-ART RESULTS IN GRINDING OF CERAMINCS SUCH AS: MIRROR FINISH GRINDING, INTERNAL GRINDING, CHIP FREE SLICING, GRINDING OF CERAMIC COMPOSITES, ETC. AN ORDERLY TRANSITION FROM GRINDING OF METALS TO GRINDING OF CERAMICS IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM.
