Project management seems straightforward: get the job done on time and within budget. But the process can become complicated. This paper describes problems in project management and suggests co-management as a solution. Combining the skills of an engineer with those of an MBA allows each manager to focus on meeting one of two of the three basic objectives. When planning, organizing, and implementing the project effort, five unique systems were needed: cost tracking, work scheduling, information management, quality assurance, and conflict management. A table lists responsibilities for the engineer and the MBA as well as shared responsibilities. Sources of conflict are ranked in terms of intensity in another table.
