Denver Water conducted a comprehensive review of treated water reservoirs in the Denver system.
A consulting engineer, Bates Engineering of Lakewood, Colorado, was hired to conduct the
study. The study focused on usable capacity, flow rates, water quality, maintenance, safety and
structural issues at 16 treated water reservoir facilities. Approximately 65% of storage is usable.
Each reservoir was examined for structural integrity focusing on cracks, corrosion, and weather
damage. Life and safety issues were reviewed. Sealants and repair coatings were tested for
hazardous materials. A comprehensive report with a list of recommendations was produced to
serve as a guide for future operations and maintenance activities.
