该标准适用于在火灾暴露时，烟气和腐蚀气体释放较少的低毒热塑性复合材料，用于绝缘和处理过的布线用柔性电缆。难燃性（最低烟度）由KS C IEC61034-2确认。腐蚀性气体的产生量是确认是否有卤素的过程的一部分（参见KS C IEC 62821-1的附属书B）。电缆额定电压U0/U在300/500V以下。包括圆形电缆及平衡电缆。该标准上各电缆的导体最高运行温度为70℃。根据这些标准，KS C IEC 62440应作为电缆的安全使用指南。该KS C IEC 62821-3应与标明一般要求的KS C IEC 62821-1相关阅读。
