Heat treaters have for decades known the disadvantages of liquid quenching: cracking, distortion, flow nonuniformity, and many more. Although quenching is one of the last heat treatment processes a part is subjected to, it is one of the least understood, albeit because what's to do but immerse the part in oil, and provide agitation; no big deal, right? Well, not anymore.
