This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the California Department of Water Resources' State Water Project (SWP). Quagga and zebra mussels sightings distribution in California is presented, along with infrastructure impacts from the mussels, elements of the SWP that are vulnerable, SWP mussel monitoring sites, veliger sampling, cross-polarized light microscopy, and bio-box monitoring. Management plans, mandated by Fish & Game Code Sections 2301 and
2302, are presented and include:
Vector Management Plan
- prevention and risk reduction;
Rapid Response Plan
- outlines immediate actions and resources at first detection; and,
Long-Term Mussel Management and Control Plan
- strategy to manage an existing population. An example is provided of applied investigations in SWP water at
San Justo Reservoir.
