The purpose of this project was to design, build, and demonstrate a system for calibrating room air conditioner test rooms. This system was to be designed such that it could serve as an industry wide standard with individual air conditioner manufacturers reproducing the system for their own use. Design goals as originally stated were as follows:(1) Variable cooling capacity ranging from 4000 to 36,000 Btu/hr (1.2 kw to 10.5 kW)(2) Maintain control of the average cooling capacity to within +/- 0-5% of the set point.(3) Determine cooling capacity to an accuracy of +/- 0.7% perferably +/- O.5%) over entire operating range.(4) Maintain temperature level of coolant entering calorimeter room to within +/- 0.1 C (+/- 0.2 F) of the value required for cooling load control.(5) Determine the rate of latent heat removal from the calorimeter room. (No specifications were established for this measurement.)
