In January 1999, the Montgomery, Alabama, Water Works & Sanitary Sewer Board(Board) commissioned CH2M HILL to assist the Board's staff in developing anInformation Technology Master Plan (ITMP). The Board's ITMP provides a roadmapfor sustainable development of the information technology function over the nextfive years. The plan documents strategic, financial, and organizationalstrategies associated with the selection and deployment of tools and technologiesto streamline the Board's business activities and to improve customer service.This paper describes the key objectives of implementing the ITMP and discussesplan development. Lessons learned during the ITMP development process are alsoincluded.
