Merging Theory and Real Life: Water Distribution System Computer Model Calibration
The calibration of a distribution system can be separated into two distinct tasks, the collection and the analysis of field data. The collection of field data can be further separated into the collection of physical and operation data. The collection of physical data, such as line sizes, lengths, conditions, elevations, etc., is necessary to establish and confirm the base data file for the computer model. The operational data is required for calibration. The operation data, such as system demands, field pressure measurements, field pump curve development, field flow measurements, tank levels, fire flow test, C-factor tests, etc., should be collected such that each component can be recorded and analyzed at specific points in time. A variety of methods, instruments, and levels of effort are utilized in developing a calibrated computer model for a distribution system.
